Glossary

Usage-based pricing.

Charging on what customers consume tokens, calls, minutes, credits, events. Often combined with subscription tiers as a single bill.

Definition

Usage-based pricing meters consumption and converts it to a charge. Pure metering bills only what a customer uses. Hybrid models combine a base subscription with overage. Credit and prepaid models pre-fund usage that depletes over time.

Why it matters

AI and infrastructure products do not sell static plans. Customers want to pay for what they use, and vendors want revenue that scales with value delivered. Usage-based pricing aligns the two but it needs metering, pricing rules, access enforcement, and accurate billing in lock step.

How Azotte handles it

Meter, price, enforce, and bill from one platform. Hybrid plans combine subscription tiers with overage. Credits and prepaid wallets fit on the same record. Subscriptions and usage charges show on one invoice.
